Preview: Azealia Banks in this month’s Paper Magazine for iPad and Digital Edition

Sharp rhymes, sexy appearances and lips comparable to those of Angelina Jolie all wrapped up in charisma and attitude, this is Azealia Banks, new bad girl of hip-hop. Amanda Azealia Banks is the name of the bad girl from Harlem – New York, who throws sharp rhymes, shoots her videos showing a vamp fashion image and posts dirty pictures on her Instagram account.

Known until recently under the name Miss Bank $, Azealia has begun to taste success once she reached on “Cool List” top list in New Musical Express magazine 2011. Azealia Banks first EP, “1991”, was released in the UK on May 28 this year and the next day in USA. The album contains four songs and received positive reviews right from the start, the single “212” is described by Robert Christgau (MSN Music) as: “quick-tongued, lascivious, catchy, and delighted with itself” “there hasn’t been a more pleasurable record all year and probably won’t be—not even by her.”

Banks was nominated for “The Sound of 2012” where she occupied an honorable place 3. Currently she is signed with Interscope Records / Polydor and released a number of songs via YouTube, one of the most famous is “212” – gathered almost 28 million views. Recently Azealia Banks released a video for the new single, 1991. The title, which is actually the rapper girl year of birth it’s not chosen by chance; in this video Azealia revive the 90s. Azealia took a little from each: from Crystal Waters 100% Pure Love, up to Madonna, Aaliah and even George Michael. She could be accused by theft, but it is clear that she was inspired by the most important names of the ’90 music. Winner of “Philip Hall Radar” award offered by NME magazine and the title of “New Style Icon “ given by Billboard Awards, Azealia Banks is preparing to launch the first full-fledged album, entitled” Broke with Expensive Taste “, which will appear this autumn.
